About

The UCI WorldTour brings together the world’s greatest road races. In 2012 this will include the second edition of the Tour of Beijing – to be staged from the 9th – 13th of October.

The Tour of Beijing is a partnership between the UCI and the Beijing City Government and covers an initial period of four years from 2011- 2014. The event is a legacy of the spectacular 2008 Olympic Games, in which the road cycling events provided an unforgettable and spectacular road race through the Chinese capital.

The event is also crucial in promoting Beijing as a global event city, whilst also promoting the environmental and healthy living outcomes cycling represent.

2012 Tour of Beijing will feature international tourism landmarks such as Tiananmen Square, the Bird’s Nest Stadium, Summer Palace, Great Wall and Ming Tomb Reservoir.

The quality of the sporting show is guaranteed thanks to the participation of the best teams – and therefore the best riders – in all the UCI WorldTour events. The 18 UCI ProTeams, carefully selected according to ethical, financial, administration, but above all sporting criteria, will participate in all the events on the UCI WorldTour calendar.

The UCI WorldTour lets us discover the biggest stage races – notably the Tour de France, the Giro d’Italia and the Vuelta a España – as well as the most prestigious one-day classics. The addition of the Tour of Beijing* is an important development for cycling at an international level, as races in Oceania, America and Asia will now also be part of the UCI WorldTour.  *Subject to the granting of a UCI WorldTour license.
